Regrets

My dad was an addict. He died from an overdose in 2018.

I once got mad at him when his food stamp card was denied and I had to cover his groceries.

It wasn’t about the money.

I gave him a hard time when he broke my glass measuring cup.

It wasn’t about the cup.

He commented on a new haircut and I was enraged because he’d already seen it and I assumed he was too drunk to remember.

It wasn’t about my hair.

I drove him from doctor to doctor, from rehab to rehab, but I was frequently short tempered. Visibly put out by what he required of me.

It wasn’t about the time.

He was homeless for many years. He used to stand on corners with a sign and ask for whatever money or food people were willing to give.

I loved him, but I was frequently embarrassed by him.

I was mad about my childhood and what bled into my adulthood, and I found any way to take it out on him.

He’s gone now and I’m not mad at him anymore.

I’m mad at how much I let my inability to forgive him affect our relationship.

Now he is free and I’m chained, weighed down by all the grace I couldn’t bear to give a person who so wholly was in need of it.

Give forgiveness. Because my regret over withholding it is stronger than all the anger I felt throughout the years.

Minnie Zola, Grandmother

I just discovered , this picture which seems to validate , that my Dad’s Dad, Warner , was a moon shine maker .

The clear liquid in the jar , equals addiction and money , and of abuse that left my beloved Grandmother , homeless, and without support , as the court found in his favor , dismissing her .. Her parents gave them the 120 acres , on which he grew corn, made moonshine , and reports of sacks of high value paper money.

He ran her away with just she could carry , fearing for her life, grieving at having to place her youngest children , and the rupture of her family .

She got nothing , but abuse, and his character assignations ..

While it did not destroy her, and her adult children and their children loved her, it altered each of them as born out in their lives, their health and deaths …

Do Not Prescribe Antidepressants for Mild to Moderate Depression or at First Visit

Makes more sense, STOP prescribing antidepressants like freaking pezz candy , for every thing from a stumped toe to grief .

Antidepressants are supposed to be short term .

Why doesn’t she leave?

Wʜʏ ᴅᴏᴇsɴ’ᴛ sʜᴇ ʟᴇᴀᴠᴇ?

Because he has her so brainwashed that it’s all her fault and that she’s no good to anyone and no one will want her or love her and there’s no way she can possibly make it on her own.

Wʜʏ ᴅᴏᴇsɴ’ᴛ sʜᴇ ʟᴇᴀᴠᴇ?

Because she thinks that if she just tries harder and if she’s a better wife and a better mom that maybe he will be happy with her and he wouldn’t get so angry with her. And maybe he will be the same sweet, charming man that he was when they first met.

Wʜʏ ᴅᴏᴇsɴ’ᴛ sʜᴇ ʟᴇᴀᴠᴇ?

Because he has her convinced that if she tries he will hurt or kill her or her family. Because he has threatened to tell the judge that she is a bad mom and will take away her kids and she will never see them again. Because he has taken away her money and convinced her that she has no good job qualities to make it on her own financially and she will always need him.

More people are concerned with why women stay in abusive relationships than why men are abusing women. Unless you’ve been in an abusive relationship people have no idea how hard it is to escape. Abusers are able to fool those outside the home because they usually only abuse those inside the home.

They need your support.

They need your love.

They do not need your judgement.
