The unhealthy family relationships we were forced to be a part of rooted us in dysfunction. Instead of learning and growing to understand and live functionally, our only choice was to learn to function in the dysfunction.
We lived in the gauntlet of getting our limits unfairly tested. The limits of what we could endure was tested. How generously we would forgive was taken advantage of, and how much abuse we would be willing to overlook was pushed beyond what any of us should have had to tolerate.
At each turn, our very humanity was being totally dishonored and compromised. This is not love. This is not family. This is abuse.

The eldest child had a nickname ,that honored her perfectionism. Only a few years younger , he was supposed to follow suit . His Mom worked and was socially connected , and he was somewhat liberated to act like the big dog , smoking , sexing and doing what boys do with out supervision.
Our sons were subjected to caring for each other , or themselves , on their own way too early with a busy Dad and a drugged Mom .
Only I am responsible in their eyes .
It’s Hell on Earth to witness this and not have a name, much less support by family, friends , clergy , therapist, doctors …why would I expect our children to grasp it, or do other than blame me? Trauma bonds drain the life , physical health and autonomy of a child , struts their soul and spiritual evolution.
