Own Your Wanting

”If women trusted and claimed their desires, the world as we know it would crumble. Perhaps that is precisely what needs to happen so we can

rebuild truer, more beautiful lives, relationships, families, and nations in their place.

Maybe Eve was never meant to be our warning. Maybe she was meant to be our model.

Own your wanting.

Eat the apple.

Let it burn.”

– Glennon Doyle, Untamed

Easy Way Out – Sherrie Campbell PH D

It is easy to judge survivors who have created distance from, or no contact with, their family. It’s easy to judge an experience that one has never traveled. It’s easy to judge because outsiders do not have the full context on anyone else’s life. These outsiders don’t know what is going through a survivor’s mind or heart, let alone the events that have shaped them into the person they are today.

It is easy to be egotistical and unkind. It easy to attack survivors and call them liars. It is easy to attack the books they read, the therapists who are helping them navigate how to protect themselves from their abusive family. It is easy to attack the social media experts survivors turn to when they have nowhere else to go for support. It is easy to claim that survivors who have cut off from their families have been encouraged and manipulated to do by these experts.

Our abusive family members and their flying monkeys will always do what is easy; attack and judge. They consistently take the way that requires the least amount of effort, accountability and self-examination.

Remember, you are worth far more than the easy way out.

“A little more matriarchy is what the world needs, and I know it.
Period.

~ Dorothy Thompson

“Recorded history starts with a patriarchal revolution. Let it continue with the matriarchal counterrevolution that is the only hope for the survival of the human race.”

‘She sat at the back and they said she was shy, She led from the front and they hated her pride, They asked her advice and then questioned her guidance, They branded her loud, then were shocked by her silence, When she shared no ambition they said it was sad, So she told them her dreams and they said she was mad, They told her they’d listen, then covered their ears, And gave her a hug while they laughed at her fears, And she listened to all of it thinking she should, Be the girl they told her to be best as she could, But one day she asked what was best for herself, Instead of trying to please everyone else, So she walked to the forest and stood with the trees, She heard the wind whisper and dance with the leaves, She spoke to the willow, the elm and the pine, And she told them what she’d been told time after time, She told them she felt she was never enough, She was either too little or far far too much, Too loud or too quiet, too fierce or too weak, Too wise or too foolish, too bold or too meek, Then she found a small clearing surrounded by firs, And she stopped…and she heard what the trees said to her, And she sat there for hours not wanting to leave, For the forest said nothing, it just let her breathe.’ (Author: @Becky Helmsley) and photo: @Rob Howarth Photography

Boomers – Keep on Keeping on

They call us ”The Elderly”

We were born in the 40-50-60’s.

We grew up in the 50-60-70’s.

We studied in the 60-70-80’s.

We were dating in the 70-80-90’s.

We got married and discovered the world in the 70-80-90’s.

We venture into the 80-90’s.

We stabilize in the 2000’s.

We got wiser in the 2010’s.

And we are going firmly through and beyond 2020.

Turns out we’ve lived through EIGHT different decades…

TWO different centuries…

TWO different millennia…

We have gone from the telephone with an operator for long-distance calls to video calls to anywhere in the world.

We have gone from slides to YouTube, from vinyl records to online music, from handwritten letters to email and Whats App.

From live matches on the radio, to black and white TV, colour TV and then to 3D HD TV.

We went to the Video store and now we watch Netflix.

We got to know the first computers, punch cards, floppy disks and now we have gigabytes and megabytes on our smartphones.

We wore shorts throughout our childhood and then long trousers, Oxfords, flares, shell suits & blue jeans.

We dodged infantile paralysis, meningitis, polio, tuberculosis, swine flu and now COVID-19.

We rode skates, tricycles, bicycles, mopeds, petrol or diesel cars and now we drive hybrids or electric.

Yes, we’ve been through a lot but what a great life we’ve had!

They could describe us as “exennials”; people who were born in that world of the fifties, who had an analog childhood and a digital adulthood.

We’ve kind of “Seen-It-All”!

Our generation has literally lived through and witnessed more than any other in every dimension of life.

It is our generation that has literally adapted to “CHANGE”.

A big round of applause to all the members of a very special generation, which will be UNIQUE.
