Happy New Year of the Green Wood Dragon!
9th/10th February 2024 🙏🌙☀🐉💚
With the dark of humanitarian Aquarian New Moon, Friday February 9th @22:59UT, we leave behind the year of the sensitive Water Rabbit and enter the year of the majestic Wood Dragon.
The Dragon is a grandiose, mythical creature – magical and mysterious, as well as imperious and generous. At this New Moon, the wise and inscrutable celestial Wood Dragon fertilises a pearl-like seed of potentiality, a jewel of auspiciousness at the start of this Lunar New Year. It is from this wish-fulfilling gem, which the dragon holds, that the enlightened heart mind emerges.
There will be many an opportunity for an illuminated spirit to generate the altruistic intention throughout 2024, which promises major excitement, especially in April, with a rare and visionary Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, when the Dragon Roarer of Thunderclouds encourages our light to glow (from within).
Right now, however, the planets are densely bundled within 108° of each other, which is an extremely unusual astral pattern called a ‘Great Compression*’, with planets occupying a small part of the sky. Holding good intent with strong focus and concentration to take us into this Year of the Wood Dragon,108° is an inspiring portent.
Note how this tightly orbed heavenly gathering is quite fleeting, lasting through Valentine’s Day, 14th Feb, up to the 15th and Vasant Pachami, to honour the growing light of the Moon with Saraswati, the Great Goddess of learning, music and the arts.
Make no mistake 108 truly is a magic number, sacred on the Dharma path. In the Buddhist tradition our prayer beads, malas for counting mantra, even contain 108 beads.
So, now, as we begin a New Lunar Year and the holy fortnight of ‘Losar’, celebrating the Buddha’s miraculous displays until the Losar ‘Day of Miracles’, and the Full Pisces Moon 24th February, may the blessings of our japas and prayers ripple throughout the realms infused with the inherently sacred and enchanting, magical power of 108!
